What is "Adobe Acrobat Reader"?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a FREE piece of software that allows you to view files created in Portable Document Format (PDF), a format commonly used on Intranet's and the Internet. Wherever you see any of the following icons, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view the document:

Why do I need it?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is frequently used across the Internet to view document that were written in a PDF format which also have the following benefits:

  • Access to the documents is controllable - the creator can turn off printing, opening and copy and pasting
  • The document will look and print the same on any computer and printer
  • Documents are compressed making them quicker to download and open
  • Users do not need to have the package that created the original document - i.e. they do not need to have Microsoft Word, Publisher, PageMaker etc.
  • The documents remain fully searchable
  • The latest versions of the software (version 5 and above) include 'Cool Type' technology. This makes the documents easier to read on screen.

How do I install the software?

Do you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed? Try clicking here and see if our catalogue loads up. If it doesn't, and you are asked what you want to do with the file, you do not have it installed. Read on...

NB: Check that you have permission to install this software by contacting your IT department. Also, if you are not proficient in installing software, or you encounter any problems, contact your IT Department first.

    1. Read all of these instructions and then click on the link ( below ) to download the Acrobat Reader.
    2. A dialog box will appear for you to choose where you want to save the file to. Choose a suitable location on your hard disk (e.g. My Documents), then click on the Save button. Remember where you have saved the file!
    3. Click on the Windows Start button, then Run , then Browse to locate the file called AdbeRdr60_enu_full .exe , double click on the file to launch and install the software.
    4. The program will be installed on your PC (accept the defaults in dialog boxes along the way).
    5. You will see an additional icon on your screen called Acrobat Reader.
